Inspired by the popular sizzling beef pepper rice from Pepper Lunch, this homemade version comes together with only a handful of ingredients! This beef stir fry with rice and corn is one of those recipes that come together so quickly, that I love making it on busy weeknights. I love how simple this beef pepper rice recipe is but is packed full of flavour. It’s definitely one of those dishes that I can eat all four servings by myself because I don’t want to share! Ingredients You’ll Need rice — you’ll need cooked, warm rice for this recipe. I usually just use my rice cooker to make jasmine rice as I prep and cook the recipe. shabu shabu beef — I used beef brisket shabu shabu beef but feel free to use what you like. As it comes pre-sliced super thin, it cuts down on prep time as well as cooking time. It literally takes a few minutes to get all the beef browned. Pepper Lunch uses chuck tender and short plate beef slice if you want to use a different — I add a bit of oil to my skillet to help brown the beef. sauce — I’m not claiming this sauce to be the same as Pepper Lunch’s. This is my take on it with a few pantry staples that I thought tasted great together! I combine maple syrup or honey, soy sauce, mirin, water, garlic powder, pepper, and onion powder in a bowl and then drizzle it over the cooked beef and rice. Pepper Lunch uses a Amakuchi Honey Soy Sauce and Karakuchi Garlic Soy Sauce for their beef pepper — you won’t regret adding butter to this. I use unsalted — I used canned sweet — the more, the better. How to Make Beef Pepper Rice Cook jasmine rice in your method of choice. I use a rice the sauce by combining maple syrup, soy sauce, mirin, water, garlic powder, pepper, and onion powder and set aside. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add a splash of oil and add the beef to until 80-90% browned and drain any excess liquid in the pan. Push the beef to the side of the pan, making a large enough space in the middle of the pan for a bowl of rice. Add half the butter to the middle of the pan and let it melt for a few seconds. Tightly pack around 3 cups of rice into a bowl and invert it into the middle of the pan, over the butter. Remove the bowl, drizzle the sauce over the rice and beef, and then top with some corn. Let everything cook together, untouched for 2 to 3 minutes. The bottom of the rice will get nice and crispy while the sauce cooks with the off with the rest of the butter and green onions before serving. Recipe Tips and Notes You are more than welcome to use a cast-iron pan to make this recipe to make this more “sizzling,” like Pepper Lunch. If you are slicing your own beef, you can freeze it for around an hour or until it’s firm so you can easily slice it thinly. Mix well before enjoying or eat it straight from the pan!A fried egg on top makes for a delicious addition. You can swap black pepper for white pepper if you are not a fan of the speckled look from the black pepper. Honey can be used in place of maple syrup if you prefer. Add a bit of sriracha to the sauce for a spicier beef stir fry. Make Ahead Tips Meal prep once cooled, store the cooked beef stir fry with rice in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the fridge. Glorious chuck tender and shortplate beef slices for the ultimate beef aroma and taste. You won't believe the tempting scent! Served sizzling hot on our signature teppan with the trusted combination of Japanese rice, crunchy corn, signature margarine and freshly ground pepper. Simple perfection! Beef Pepper Rice is dish of thinly sliced beef served on hot plate with rice and corn complemented by Amakuchi a type of Honey Soy Sauce and Karakuchi a type of Garlic Soy SauceThis dish became popular in the Philippine probably 3 years ago and all I can do is drool over the photos I saw online as we don’t have Pepper Lunch here in New Zealand, since then I wanted to try them and the only way to do it is by making it on my own. After reading several reviews of the dish from different You Tube channels and blogs, I think I have enough information to recreate it at home, so I starting what and who is Pepper Lunch? Pepper Lunch was created in 1994 by chef and inventor Kunio Ichinose in the search for serving quality fast food without hiring a chef. He then thought of simply not cooking the beef and serve it on hot plates using an electromagnetic cooker heating the plates at 260C, the diners eventually will be their own cooks. A simple thinly sliced beef with rice will not be complete with condiments as it will be tasteless hence it is served with an Amakuchi honey soy sauce and/or Karakuchi garlic soy sauce. When I first saw this, I thought of Yoshinoya another Japanese creation that serves thinly sliced beef with rice but instead of chefs preparing your dish you are served with raw beef and it’s up to you how you season or cook them to your most households will have hard time making this at home, not because of the ingredients but with the use of hot plates———, plus it will be cumbersome to prepare in multiple hot plates on multiple burners, it would be easy to prepare them in one pan if you don’t have the facility so the recipe I made will not require them, all you need is one heavy pan and hungry diners. Wow! I was super surprised to see that this place has only 3 1/2 stars, because I actually really enjoyed the food here! I came here today to try it out with my cousin and sister, and was super ecstatic because many people have recommended this place. First impression Super cute inside! The actual restaurant is in a plaza with many other popular food places! There's a long strip of parking, as well as a parking garage. I would definitely recommended coming out early, the parking spots fill up really fast! Service The servers/workers were so nice! They accommodated to us very well especially since we kept asking for stuff! I would definitely give them a 10/10 for service!Food I actually really enjoyed this! Classicpepper beef gets a 2/5; my beef came out burnt and my mushrooms didn't have time to cook evenly with everything else. Pretty expensive for just rice, corn and burnt meat. Kimchi beef with cheese also gets a 2/5; this was also eh. Flavors didn't really blend very well to me.
